“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise” (Deuteronomy 6:5-7).
Parents are their children’s first theology teachers. Our church families, great books, programs, and helpful media can assist and support our work but cannot supplant it. A mother and father’s love for the Lord (Deuteronomy 6:5) is to spill over into the discipleship of their children (Deuteronomy 6:6) as the family abides together (Deuteronomy 6:7). If everyday life together is the occasion for our diligent teaching of Scripture, then let us use each moment well!
In Dolce Devotions, Eric, Nana, Jael (7), and Noel (5), share Bible stories, songs, and prayers for the persecuted-persevering church around the world. Below is our 12-part series on the Ten Commandments and the cross. Listen to other episodes wherever you get your podcasts! May God’s Word stir up our affections for Christ as we seek to love and commend Him to our children within the everyday routines of life!
